One of the best run missions I have been to

My 1st review needed to be updated. For one, there is little to no social services help at this mission. Everyone is quick to pass the buck so they do not have to deal with you. Totally disorganized to. On my 2nd day, I was tagged and bagged and was told to go and I was not even the guy they wanted to get kicked out. I've been chewed out for not doing chores when in fact I did, and the staff assured me all is well. Guess what? Not all was well. It almost seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing here. There is absolutely no accountability for their own actions, and as a direct result, someone, and God only knows how many has been kick out due to a staff error. Stay at your own risk

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Volunteers were very helpful and the staff awesome. We picked up food baskets for low income people who needed help.

I find it absolutely absurd that a client isn't allowed to have a laptop computer even if he's not going to use the thing in the facility at all (which I sure wasn't), and yet people are allowed to have their fancy government-subsidized cellphones that can access the Internet -- so at night when you're trying to sleep, there are morons all around you in the dorm playing with their beloved phones and keeping you awake. If it were up to me, every client should be required to hand over their phone to the office when they breathalize, and they can go to the office and retrieve it in the morning. The way I see it, the mission is discriminating against those with laptops and not applying the same standard to those with these fancy cellphones, and that's 100% not right. And if they don't want to require clients hand over their phones to the office, then at least lay down a rule that there's no cellphone usage in the dorms after lights-out, and make regular rounds so if someone is discovered breaking this rule, he should be suspended from the shelter for at least 3 days. The shelter in Eugene, Oregon requires all clients to shower right before going into the dorms, that way no one can bring in a cellphone. And at the shelter in Sioux Falls, all cellphones are required to be locked up in the client's locker which are outside the dorms. Northlands Rescue Mission needs to enact a similar measure so as to ensure that those clients who want their sleep can get it.

Place has got a lot better since they cleaned out some of the long term residents. (Myself included) More of a place to get back on your feet not to make a home in.
